Hats off to another fanfiction writer looking to make the transition into original works! Been there, done that, got the postcard–and kind of missing my fanfic babies. Please give a warm welcome to Wattpad’s writerdo!
Questions:
What are your thoughts on e-books vs. “traditional” print, both as a reader and a writer?
As a reader, I’m pretty much 50/50 on traditional books vs. e-books. I think the obvious advantage of an e-book is being able to receive it immediately without leaving your home. I do read a lot on my iPad. It’s nice to be able to see how many pages are left in a chapter, or how many pages until you reach the end of the book. Now, with that said, nothing quite compares to the feeling of a traditional book in your hands. I enjoy being able to share a great book with a friend after I’ve finished it.
As a writer, at this point, e-books are more important to me. Although I hope to be traditionally published someday, right now Wattpad is giving me a platform to share my books.
What was the first thing you ever wrote?
Don’t laugh…fan fiction. I’ve always loved writing, however, I put my dream on hold for years to put my family first. My daughter and I had been talking one day about how some of the One Direction fan fiction were actually pretty bad. I told her what I’d do differently and she told me I should write one. I did, just as a way to practice my writing. To my surprise I received a ton of great feedback. That was over a year ago. Today I’ve written ten fan fics and I’m working on my first novel.
Any advice for new writers?
You have to do it because you love it. Don’t do it for money, write because it makes you happy. If the money comes, great. Allow yourself the time to write. You deserve it.
What’s your preferred genre to write in?
I love writing romance. I want to write lines that make the reader’s heart skip a beat.
How many hours a day do you write?
Most days, I write/edit for 2-3 hours. A great day is when I have time to write for 5 plus hours. If a day passes that I don’t get to write, I feel like I’m not whole.
