TBR Thursday: The Crown by Genevieve Raas

38209855From international bestselling author Genevieve Raas comes a tale of dark enchantments and wicked secrets.

Whoever solves the mystery of why the princesses’ shoes are destroyed each night will inherit the throne. Princes from all kingdoms have tried. All fail. The punishment? Execution.

Only a soldier is now willing to take the challenge.

Ross Daltry was crippled long ago in one of the king’s many wars. The lavish lifestyle of the nobility disgusts him, not to mention the vanity of the princesses. He is determined to win the throne and end the king’s incompetent rule.

However, when he meets the Princess Octavia, he finds himself taken by her intelligence and kindness. She threatens to unravel his heart.

But behind the princesses’ pretty smiles lies a terrible secret that is more than just broken shoes. In a race against time, Ross must navigate intrigue, tricks, and terrors to save his life.

The Crown is a dark and twisted retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses.

Creature Feature: Witches (The Hunt)

CF_ WitchesContinuing on with my Creature Feature blog series, today we’ll be discussing witches in the paranormal romance universe of THE HUNT. Witches are powerful, magic-wielding demons. They rank high in Hell’s hierarchy, and are usually well received by their clan due to their rarity. Witches also tend to appear frequently along a witch-heavy matriarchal line.

Witches look similar to regular demons, including their all-black eyes and occasional forked tongue, but they tend to be horrifically scarred. Magic comes with a price, and all practitioners must give up a piece of themselves in order to perform spellwork. Even casting the most insignificant of hexes will require payment, and most witches choose to pay with blood.

Hell-born witches perform wandless magic, and have the ability to bestow their gift onto a worthy human. Humans require wands, or some sort of channeling tool, to cast spells, and pay for magic by giving their souls over to the demonic witch who blessed them—or cursed them—with their magical ability.

Demonic witches tend to deal in blood, sacrifice, curses, and darkness, putting them in sharp contrast with other magically-inclined supernatural creatures—fae, elves, sprites, nymphs—who lean more toward drawing strength and power from the natural world.

Known witches in THE HUNT include Severus’s cousin Cordelia, along with her mother Circe (reference only).

TBR Thursday: Escort by Skye Warren

37854751I’m an escort, which means this date is nothing more than a mutually enjoyable transaction. There shouldn’t be any surprises, not for one as jaded as me, but when I walk into the penthouse suite of L’Etoile, everything changes.

1) For one thing, Bea is heartstoppingly gorgeous. Pale green eyes and endless freckles. Curves I want to spend all night exploring, as if her body was made for me.

2) Her innocence makes me want to use my entire inventory of bedroom tricks on her and then invent a few more.

3) Except that… she’s a virgin.

I can initiate her into the world of desire without letting her get attached, can’t I? A few hours of tutoring, and at the end of the night a small fortune will be deposited into my bank account.

But once I realize one night with her won’t be enough, I’m the one who’s screwed.

TBR Thursday: Pestilence by Laura Thalassa

37769929.jpgThey came to earth—Pestilence, War, Famine, Death—four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn’s town, one thing is certain: everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed.

Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed.

Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her … and hers towards him.

And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she’ll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.
