Meet the Characters: Malachi Saevitia (The Uprising)

MTC_ MalachiMeet Malachi Saevitia, a chaos demon who was a snarky, less than humble side character in The Hunt. Just to make that ego a little bigger, the gorgeous creature is getting his own novel: The Uprising.

Eldest brother. Son of chaos. Golden child. Malachi has lived a charmed life in Hell. Having won the genetic lottery, he was born one of the strongest brands of demons, a ruler of chaos like his mother, and as basked in the wealth of the Saevitia clan for all his existence.

Unfortunately, the last few centuries in Hell haven’t exactly gone smoothly. After his little incubus brother abandoned him and his tormenting ways for Earth, he was left with his parents — who quickly turned on each other. How did it go? Father killed Mother’s lover. Mother killed Father. Father’s clan killed Mother. Left alone to guard his family’s estate as the sole survivor of the massacre, Malachi grew out of his more preening peacock ways. In The Hunt, he had the opportunity to reconnect with his brother. Slowly, the pair worked toward rebuilding their nonexistent relationship. These days, he considers Severus more important than any other Saevitia, the demon hierarchy and Hell’s social politics be damned.

While he may break rank for his little brother, Malachi is a shrewd player above and below. He takes what he wants, sees no qualms in bribing to get one step ahead, and will literally rip your heart out should you cross him. He likes to scheme in intricate detail, but is begrudgingly adaptable should his plans go awry. Snarky, arrogant, bloodthirsty, the chaos demon is finally ready for more than the life of one of Hell’s elite.

He’s ready to take charge of his own topside city.

And Farrow’s Hollow will do just nicely.

Meet the Characters: Ella Thomas (The Uprising)

MTC_ EllaMeet Ella Thomas, a side character in The Hunt, and the heroine of her very own novel, The Uprising. Ella is a twenty-four year old student with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Psychology, plus a master’s degree in English. She is currently enrolled in teacher’s college, and has grand plans of becoming a high school English teacher. Ella made her debut as angel hybrid Moira Aurelia’s bff in The Hunt, and has since cannonballed into the supernatural world with her eyes wide open, taking all the weirdness in stride while still keeping her sense of humor.

Ella is the second youngest of five. Her parents were both intensely career-driven while she was growing up, and therefore largely absent from her life. She and her siblings usually had to fend for themselves, which made her home life rather Lord of the Flies. She has a somewhat distant relationship with her three older brothers, while she and her sister were close as children but grew apart in their teens. To avoid the stress, she spent her final two years of high school living with Moira and her mom, two women she considers family in every sense of the word.

Despite a somewhat rocky upbringing, Ella has never been one to lack confidence in herself. An outspoken extrovert, she fills her time with clubs, sports, and all manner of after-school activities. From the time she could legally work and earn her own money, she did, though she took a break to live on savings and student loans during her university years.

Her friends consider her warm and empathetic, but also stubborn, impatient, and a touch on the impulsive side. She’s a lover of nineties R&B, is deeply passionate about food, and has more Harry Potter paraphernalia hidden away in her closet than she’ll ever admit.

Men come and go. Romantic relationships fizzle. Sisterhood is forever. Ella is loyal to the people she most cares about, and will go to Hell and back — a saying she now realizes could be taken literally — to see them safe and happy.

Meet the Characters: Calder Holloway (Dark Days)

MTC - CalderMeet Calder Holloway, the hero of my upcoming paranormal romance duet Dark Days! Calder is a two-hundred year old vampire history teacher with a preference for teaching the upper secondary years. He is the newest faculty member at Solskinn International Academy, a human boarding school above the Arctic Circle in Norway. He is very excited about the lack of sunlight for half the year.

While Calder’s past is dark and mysterious, he has high expectations for the future. Perpetually early, a planner down to his marrow, the vampire is all about organization, precision, and execution. He holds those around him to a very high standard, but given the supernatural community is still relatively hidden to humans, he must swallow whatever annoyances tickle his fangs and play nice instead. For him, pretending to be a sweet, somewhat bumbling fellow who the humans in his life adore is a defensive strategy, a protective measure, and has served him well over the last decade.

Calder is a fan of priceless antiques, ridiculously expensive three-piece suits, and AB-negative blood.

Meet the Characters: Emma Kingsley (Dark Days)

MTC - EmmaMeet Emma Kingsley, the heroine of my upcoming paranormal romance duet Dark Days! Emma is a twenty-six year old wolf shifter from Maine who is currently teaching physical education at a human boarding school in Solskinn, Norway.

As the alpha’s heir, she defied her family’s expectations and chose her own path in life. Independent, snarky, and brave, she is loyal to her loved ones, and will defend them to her last breath. The shifter is almost always running five minutes late, and her wardrobe could do with a revamp.

She enjoys knitting, hiking, and like most wolves, adores the great outdoors. Her shifted form is a very large grey wolf with eyes bright as a midnight moon.

Meet the Characters: Severus (The Hunt)

MTC_ SeverusMeet Severus, an incubus escort and the hero of my upcoming paranormal romance series, The Hunt. In the grand demon hierarchy, incubi rate down toward the bottom, the way bottom, as their strength is dependent on human contact. A native Hell-born demon, Severus spent centuries enduring the cruelty of his own kind before finally making the move to the human city of Farrow’s Hollow a permanent one.

Rather than repeating the mistakes of historical incubi, Severus decided to work as an escort to get his fix. He sees clients three to five nights a week, and has for decades, taking just what he needs to survive. In his entire existence topside, he has yet to kill a client—which, for a demon, is saying something.

He lives with a demon-human hybrid named Alaric Crowley, the son of Verrier, a former prince of Hell who is spending his retirement years on Earth. Verrier dotes on his son, and Severus reaps the benefits too. While he enjoys the fancy house and high-tech gadgets and dozens of flashy cars all at his disposal courtesy of his roommate, Severus likes the security the most. No one can touch him if he’s a friend of Alaric’s, given the entire demon community fears the wrath of Verrier.

Severus genuinely likes Alaric, however, and while neither would ever admit it, the pair aren’t just roommates, but best friends. In fact, Alaric is his only friend, as the scorn from fellow demon didn’t lessen much after the move to Earth. He’s still an incubus, still a leech, and he’s reminded of it daily.

The hatred could have turned his hard and cruel, but, embarrassingly enough, Severus is a caregiver at heart. His clients have been on the receiving end of his generosity for years, whether he can acknowledge it or not. Charming, polite, and able to swallow his pride, Severus has been a model demon citizen on Earth. Adaptable and observant, he steers clear of the demon mob families and flies under the radar for the most part.

Still, like most demons, he delights in public displays of cruelty, and his somewhat benevolent attitude towards humans stems from the fact that he needs them to survive. He isn’t above using morally questionable tactics to get what he wants.

He is a fan of vintage whiskey and violent video games. He keeps his inner beast dormant most of the time, and is one of the few demons to seamlessly integrate into human society. As a lust demon who also escorts, sex is on his mind… a lot.

One drunken night, he took a Hogwarts Sorting Hat quiz; unsurprisingly, he’d make the perfect Slytherin.

Meet the Characters: Moira (The Hunt)

MTC - Moira AureliaMeet Moira Aurelia, the heroine of my upcoming paranormal romance series, The Hunt. Moira is a twenty-three year old art history grad student in the city of Farrow’s Hollow. An only child, she considers her best friend Ella family, and their bond only strengthened when her mom passed away shortly before her twenty-second birthday, struck with an illness doctors couldn’t explain.

Before her mom’s death, she was an exuberant, social, active university student with a goal to become an art therapist. Working through her Master’s degree in art history now, she had plans to pursue her degree in social work after. However, an array of physical changes that kick-started after she turned twenty-two has thrown a wrench into her plans. When she looks in the mirrors these days, she no longer sees herself. Inexplicably, her body has slowly morphed into another person over the course of a year and a half—what was green is now blue, what was brown is now white, and what was once curvy and soft is now lean and bony. The world seems to be fading around her, yet her strength is somehow growing. And, same as her mom’s illness, no one can tell her why.

The physical changes have had an emotional impact on Moira. Fearing she’s dying, and unable to accept any of the crazy alternatives to come to mind, she has retreated from her social life. No more ultimate Frisbee, bar trivia nights, and hangover brunches on Sunday mornings with her roommates. She’s become quiet, introspective, and, honestly, lonely.

What hasn’t disappeared is her can-do attitude and independence. A Farrow’s Hollow native, Moira is still assertive when she needs to be, and while her dating life may have gone out the window, she isn’t afraid to make connections and stand up for the people she cares about. A loyal friend, a hardworking student, and a curious soul, she faces the challenges ahead with focus, determination, and maybe a few tears along the way.

On every online Sorting Hat quiz, Moira’s Hogwarts house is Gryffindor.
